Just had the thought

Maybe we are at a crossroads with MLB and pro sports in general.
Do we really think we can keep pro sports - where millions of dollars in contracts/revenues/etc. are at stake - clean?

Also, do we really WANT to know if players are cheating? I remember when Big Mac did his 70 thing in 1998 w/Sosa and the AP reporter snooped in his locker and found Andro and we (the sporting public) more or less wanted it to go away so we could watch the Great HR Chase of '98.

Just thinking out loud...

From now on we should have everything possible to try and catch people cheating. At least have blood tests. Do I want all the past names released so I can find out who cheated in 02' etc? part of me does, but I would be very disappointed if I found out Nomar or Pedro or someone like that failed a test.

I dunno - as I reflect back on this game, from spitballs to corked bats to Black Sox to whatever else, it seems like cheating/conniving has always been a part of baseball.

Maybe the Steroid Era is just the 2007 edition of scandals gone by.

Look at me getting all soft - I've spent more hours than I care to count bashing Bonds & others for all of this.

I must be getting old.
